What is a colour change wrap?

A colour change wrap covers every painted panel you can see with the doors closed in one continuous colour of vinyl film: bonnet, roof, wings, doors, bumpers, pillars and boot. It changes the colour of the car completely without a drop of paint, and it can be peeled off again whenever you want your original colour back.

Done properly, it looks like a respray. The film is stretched evenly over each panel, wrapped round every edge and tucked out of sight, and handles, lights and badges come off rather than being cut round. Nothing is painted, so nothing is permanent, and the factory paint spends the next five to seven years underneath, protected from stone chips, bird lime and sun.

People choose a colour change for a car they love but want to look different, to try a colour the factory never offered, to keep a leased car's paint perfect for its return, or simply because a quality respray costs twice as much and takes three times as long.

Choosing your colour and finish

A colour on a phone screen is never the colour on a car. That's why every colour change starts with a sample appointment: you bring the car to the unit, and we hold the real film against it in daylight, on the curve of a wing and the flat of a door, until you're sure.

We fit cast film from the two ranges we trust on curves: 3M 2080 and Avery Dennison Supreme Wrapping Film. Between them there are several hundred colours in gloss, satin, matte and colour-shift, plus metallic, pearl and textured finishes. If you've seen a colour on another car, bring a photo and we'll find the closest match.

Gloss is the closest to paint and the most forgiving to wash. Satin hides small ripples and looks expensive in any colour. Matte is dramatic but needs the most care. Colour-shift changes with every angle and costs a little more.

03 / Five days

Day by day. No rush.

  1. Day 1

    See it and strip

Your film confirmed against the car in daylight, then washed, decontaminated and stripped of handles, lights and badges.

  2. Day 2

    The front half

Bonnet, front wings and bumper, each wrapped round its edges in one piece where the panel allows.

  3. Day 3

    The back half

Doors, rear quarters, roof and boot, with every seam placed where the eye does not land.

  4. Day 4

    Edges and heat

Every edge post-heated so it cannot lift, parts refitted, then left overnight to settle.

  5. Day 5

    Check and handover

Inspected under the lights, walked round with you, and handed over with the aftercare card.

Smaller cars are usually done in three days. We give you the dates with the quote.

04 / Questions

Colour change, answered.

Can you match a colour I've seen?

Usually, yes. Bring a photo and we will find the closest films from the hundreds we can get, then hold the real samples against your car in daylight before anything is ordered.

Do you wrap the door shuts?

Only if you want them done. A standard colour change covers everything you see with the doors closed; the shuts, the frames you see with a door open, add £350 and a day.

Will people be able to tell it's a wrap?

Not from a metre away. Edges are wrapped round and tucked behind the panels, and seams sit where the eye does not land. Up close, a trained eye might spot a relief cut in a deep recess.

What happens to my paint underneath?

It is protected from stone chips and sun for as long as the wrap is on. On factory paint the film comes off years later the way it went on. We measure every panel before we quote and tell you if one has been resprayed.

Do I need to tell the DVLA and my insurer?

Yes, for a full colour change. Your insurer needs to know, and the DVLA needs the new colour on your V5C logbook. It costs nothing to update.

How long does it last, and is it guaranteed?

The cast film lasts up to seven years. Our fitting is guaranteed for a year, and every car gets a free check-up two weeks after collection.
