Dechroming, or chrome delete, covers the chrome trim on a car in black vinyl film: the window surrounds, the grille and its surround, the wing vents, the mirror caps, the door handles, the badges and the roof rails. Nothing is painted or removed for good. The chrome is still there underneath, protected, and the film can be peeled off whenever you want it back.
It's the quickest way to change the look of a car. Chrome that looked expensive in the showroom starts to look dated within a few years, and it shows every water mark. In gloss or satin black the same car looks lower, meaner and newer, and it matches the black trim many manufacturers now fit to their sportiest models.
Most dechromes are done in a single day at the unit in Leeds. Every piece is wrapped in one length of film where its shape allows, tucked behind the seals so there are no visible edges, and heated so it stays put.

Badges can be wrapped black or removed at no extra cost. We price every car when we see it, so the number doesn't change on the day.
Black isn't one colour on a car. Gloss black is the most popular: deep and shiny, and a match for the piano-black trim many manufacturers fit to their top models. Satin black has a soft, low sheen that looks factory-fitted and never shows fingerprints. Matte black is the flattest and most understated.
For something more technical, carbon-look film has a real woven texture you can feel, and it works especially well on mirror caps, grilles and roof rails. It costs a little more because the pattern has to line up on every piece.
Not sure which suits your car? Book a sample appointment and we'll hold each finish against your trim in daylight before anything is ordered.

You hand over the keys and we walk round the car together, agreeing every piece that goes black.
Every chrome piece is cleaned, decontaminated and wiped with panel prep so the film bonds properly.
Each piece is wrapped in one length of film where its shape allows, tucked behind seals and rubbers.
Every edge is post-heated so it cannot lift, and any trim that came off goes back on.
We check every piece under the lights, walk round it with you, and hand over the aftercare card.
A full dechrome on a large 4x4 can run into a second day. We give you the times with the quote.
04 / Questions
No. The chrome is wrapped in vinyl film, not painted, so it can be peeled off at any time and the chrome underneath is exactly as it was.
No. The film protects it from scratches and water marks while it's on, and comes off cleanly. We use cast film with an adhesive made to be removed.
Up to seven years. Window surrounds and grilles last the longest; door handles get the most wear, and we'll refresh one for free in the first year if it lifts.
Yes. Badges can be wrapped black in place, or removed altogether and the area cleaned up, whichever you prefer.
Most dechromes are done in a day: drop off at 8, collect at 5. A full dechrome on a large 4x4 can take a second day.
It's a cosmetic change and doesn't alter your car's registered colour, so the DVLA doesn't need to know. Some insurers like to be told about any modification, so it's worth a quick call.
